Delnorth’s traffic management solutions for Capricorn Highway in Rockhampton
The Project
Delnorth was approached by Road Tek Rockhampton to supply products for a project on the Capricorn Highway in Gracemere, Rockhampton. The project was aimed at solving two challenges:
- Preventing B-doubles from parking their trailers on the shoulder of the highway
- Deterring vehicles from turning across the highway to change direction.
Delnorth provided the perfect solution to these challenges by supplying Steelflex® marker posts and Laneflex flexible bollards.
The Challenge
The first challenge was addressed by installing more than 50 Steelflex® marker posts along the highway. In this instance the surface mounted Steelflex products were installed to deter trucks from parking on the shoulder of the highway, which was situated near a turn-off lane. This application has proven to be successful and has deterred the trucks and increased visibility for other vehicles in this area. The Steelflex marker posts are highly durable to vehicle impact, and their delineation properties provide excellent visibility, even from a distance. They have also been designed to be tamper-proof, making them difficult to remove once installed.
The second challenge was addressed by installing Laneflex flexible bollards in the “Emergency Vehicles Only” turning bay. These products have been designed to deter vehicles from crossing the highway in front of oncoming traffic. The Laneflex flexible bollards are made of highly durable materials that can withstand the weight of heavy vehicles, a combination of reflective delineation and bright colour provides excellent visibility both day and night from a distance. This solution has stopped normal vehicles from crossing the highway and made the turning bay an event with no risk.
Our Solution
The installation of the Delnorth products was completed successfully, within a timely manner and marginal disruption to traffic flow; allowing the project to be completed within the specified time frame required. Our products were easy to install, and they have been highly effective in achieving the desired outcome. Road Tek Rockhampton are pleased with the results and the project outcome has been achieved.
